Do Yeop Kwon (b. 1997) is an artist working across mixed media, whose practice examines memory, identity, and transience in the context of contemporary dislocation. Kwon considers how personal and collective histories are preserved, fragmented, and reconstituted through images, objects, and material processes.
Central to the work is memory's instability: the way it shifts across time, is shaped by place, and forms the ground on which identity is built. Through layering, repetition, displacement, and transformation, Kwon traces the partial and often contradictory means by which the past is carried into the present. Materiality is not incidental to this inquiry but constitutive of it. The physical properties of each medium register vulnerability, absence, movement, and change. Identity emerges not as fixed or singular but as continually negotiated through memory, migration, and inhabited environment.
The resulting works hold traces, fragments, and provisional forms in coexistence, articulating the uncertainty of contemporary life.
